Go Higher is a fantastic opportunity which gives you the chance to go to University as a mature student through studying different modules such as Philosophy, History, English and a wide variety of other subjects. The door is then opened for you to obtain the credits needed to apply for a University place and study the degree of your choice. So why do Go Higher? In following the Go Higher programme you will not only grow in confidence but you will be taught how to write essays, create a group web blog, give presentations, sit examinations and work with fantastic staff and students. The course is run in three stages, and at each stage you will be greatly supported and guided to deliver academically to the University of Liverpool’s standard.
So where has Go Higher enabled me to be in life? Through studying Go Higher I now have a place at the Philosophy Department and will be starting my degree this September 2014.
The other fantastic students who I have had the privilige to work with – and myself – will be having a celebratory evening this coming Thursday 3rd July at the Victoria Gallery Museum and the sense of pride because of completing Go Higher – well, it’s something I would definitely recommend!
We also have our first conference to look forward to on the 23rd July and a Philosophy Oxford Style debate at Liverpool One’s pop up shop. This course has so many opportunities and opens a wide variety of doors that, until now, I would never have believed would be open to myself. So I would like to give a huge thank-you to the fantastic staff, mentors and students who have helped me along my educational journey so far.
Well said Michelle, looking forward to celebrating all our hard work tomorrow
Excellent piece Michelle….what you have said about Go Higher, staff and fellow students is spot on. Apart from my family, quite simply the best thing I have ever done. LJMU beckons for me, I will always have wonderful memories of the fun times, especially Abercrombie Square gardens. Thanks Go Higher.
A good post describing the experience of Go Higher, been a fantastic journey and one i will never forget. I have loved learning new subjects, especially Philosophy and Literature and meeting like minded people on the course. It’s a new beginning for all of us and we all worked hard. I found the support i received from fellow students and the dedicated lecturer’s helped me to stay determined, even through stage 2 which i found difficult but thoroughly enjoyed. Creating web blogs and presenting was something which i never dreamed i would have the confidence to do, however this course has shown me anything is possible. I am so looking forward to starting my degree in History and the UOL campus has a welcoming and community feel. I am sad the Go Higher has come to an end, but this is only the beginning for us. With that Go Higher is the perfect stepping stone to Higher education and is well recommended. Well done to everyone and best wishes for the next 3 years….
Thanks for the reply’s everyone go higher has definetley been an amazing experience and I’ve made some fantastic friends along the way, I wish you all the very best of luck for the next three years and the future, and would also like to thank the fantastic staff for all of their support during 2013/2014
I never knew learning could be so much fun. The combination of interesting coursework, encouraging lecturers and a great bunch of student comrades made the whole experience for me. I’ve met friends for life and now love Liverpool city and university they are like a second home to me.
I can echo Emily’s comment, we belong to the same political party but didn’t know her that well till I realised I was sitting next to her in Stage 2 of the course. Emily with many others is now a firm friend and comrade. My story fits in with the whole mature student ethos of Go Higher, it’s 40 years since I was last in education and this whole experience has changed for me the end of my working life to one I never envisaged. Claire has it right life amd love experience has to make mature students the most ideally suited to university undergraduate life, I for one feel it’s a challenge I can raise to and Go Higher has given me the tools to achieve my goals on the History degree I will be doing come Septwmber.
Well done mum. Never knew this had been done proud of you x
